I didn't like it all that much, I think it's because it didn't have much impact. It is a heartfelt coming of age story about relationships and recognising that people won't stay with you your whole life. Unfortuanelty, I only found myself caring about the main character's friend, Andreas. He actually had interesting conflict with feeling that Ben has left him and ending up in a toxic relationship because of that. He was a really well rounded character. I feel that his conflict was concluded too quickly, we don't even see the aftermath of him breaking up with his boyfriend. It's like the story skiped over some stuff right at the end so Andreas could get his happy ending sooner. As for the other characters, they were fine. I actually really disliked Ben. He didn't have any interesting conflicts and was just kind of a idiot. His girlfriend was kinda interesting, but her conflict is a bit generic with the whole "I wanna go to college, but it's going to be far away from my boyfriend". Ben and his girlfriend dealing with generic coming of age conflicts while Andreas is going through fucked shit is really jarring. We don't also see the impact of their conflict, they see get to see eachother in the end. The book wasn't horrible, I liked some character interactions and the rough artstyle, but it really wasn't for me. |

I love this series so much. The comedy's great, the art is great, the characters are great, all the zany worldbuilding elements are great. Honestly I don't think that I can say anything about the series that hasn't been said before, I just deeply love the series as a whole. All I said that there are some aspects of the comic that are done better in the film (mainly I much prefer Lucas Lee's character in the movie and anime, there is no way that someone who joins "The League of Ramona Flower's Evil Exes" is a decent person). I overall believe that the comic is the best in terms of Scott's story, presenting the overall themes of the series and is the most emotional, the movie is the best the fun, zany and comedic aspect of the series, and the anime's a deconstruction of the story that leans in into the redemption aspect of the series by through focusing on the side characters. |
